A Hole In The Sky

Saw this anomaly in the clouds the other day.

Chairs Stacked On A Barbed-Wire Fence

Saw this the other day out in the country of Southern Utah.  There’s a message there I think. Can you guess what it may be?  It definitely is a chairful scene!

Monument Valley Supermoon

The supermoon for the ages came this week and Monument Valley was an iconic place to observe and photograph.  The moon was big but maybe not so super, after all, it’s only 14 % bigger than a normal full moon. The most difficult aspect of photographing the very bright moon is ensuring that you expose for the moon and not the surrounding landscape. Otherwise the moon will look washed out.

The Nautilus

The aptly name Nautilus is an unusual rock formation carved by erosion in Southern Utah.

One Amazing Little Rainbow

Caught this rainbow dancing along the desert floor near Marble Canyon at Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona. It played with the monsoonal clouds passing through to provide some abstract images. A time lapse video of this rainbow and surrounding storms will follow soon.  These images are available as prints or downloadable files for personal use at Dawn2dawnPhotography.com

On The Edge

I got brave last week and ventured out to the edge of this point that looks toward Marble Canyon and the Grand Canyon. I set up my camera on a tripod and set the timer to release the shutter every 15 seconds. That was as far as I got to the edge! Looked like a 2,000 foot drop below.

“…the greatest meeting of land and water in the world.”

That’s what landscape artist Francis McComas  said about this spot along the Pacific Ocean Coastline at Carmel, California.  Point Lobos State Natural Reserve became part of California’s State Park system in 1933. They only allow 150 vehicles in the park at any given time in order to preserve its tranquility.

Zion Rockfall

It has been a rough week at Zion National Park and this morning, a major rockfall blocked Highway 9, which travels through the park. Luckily, no one was injured. Road to be reopened tonight?  Pic courtesy of NPS.

UPDATE-  ROAD MAY NOT OPEN UNTIL WEEKEND BECAUSE OF INSTABILITY OF ROCKS ABOVE
