The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is much more than a big hole in the ground. With beautiful pine and aspen tree forests and wild wildflowers, Grand Canyon National Park offers more than the normal picture postcard. Slideshow starts by clicking on first image. All photos were taken this past week.

Waiting For The Sun
Yes, it is the title of one of my favorite DOORS songs but this is what I had to do to get this shot at The Grand Canyon. The sun was setting behind a bank of clouds and a spotlight of sun would appear in the canyon but I had to wait patiently until it lit up Mount Hayden in the foreground. What’s In The Clouds?
No, this post isn’t about that virtual hard drive in the internet cloud where you can access Photoshop and other programs and files. This is a science lesson about the clouds we actually see in the sky. Ever wonder what type of cloud is overhead dropping buckets of H2O? No. Maybe you want to know what type of clouds are those that have a wispy, artistic look, kind of like Salvador Dali’s mustache? So, below are some scenes I shot that show different cloud types with scientific names followed by those cloud types with names I made up!

And now the clouds with names I made up………

Taylor Creek Trail-Zion National Park
The Taylor Creek Trail at the Kolob Canyons section of Zion National Park is an easy stroll with a big payoff at the end. The trail follows Taylor Creek for 2.2 miles where it ends at the really cool Double Arch Alcove. The trail is 2.1 miles from the Kolob Canyon Visitor Center which is just off Interstate 15, about 30 miles north of St. George, Utah.
