The Kaibab National Forest is an anomaly in a land of deep red rock canyons and desert scrub. Situated high on a plateau, the Kaibab reaches some 9,000 feet into the Northern Arizona sky.

I love the photos. Are there any paved roads into that forest, or is it all dirt? Given it’s remoteness, I’ll bet there aren’t very many visitors.

Thanks Tippy! There is one paved road thru the Kaibab and that’s because it leads to the North Rim at Grand Canyon National park. All other roads are traveled lightly.

Looks like a great place with varied habitats, Mike. Love the textures of the tree trunks. I was imagining what the aspens amid the pines would look like in the fall. Maybe head back for a few pix come October? 🙂

Thanks Eliza. It is varied but there is little water on the plateau although they get a lot of snow in winter. Looking forward to Autumn

It’s good to see that the Kaibab has rebounded since the overgrazing and predator control of the 19th century and early 20th century left it close to being a barren wasteland.

It seems pretty healthy although I see logging and some grazing, not much.
