Peruvian Jungle Madness

Our trip to Peru included a steamy, exhilarating push into the Amazonian Jungle. A two hour boat ride  took us down the Tambopata River where there were no roads and few people.

We flew into Puerto Maldonado to begin the jungle excursion. This was the second jet plane needed to make it there since the first one experienced engine trouble and we turned back to Cuzco. I knew something was amiss when the pilot came on the intercom and asked us to ” remain calm!”  It was a hard landing in Cuzco but we all remained calm….

Sheets were used to keep the giant insects from devouring us through the night.

Our guide took us on a nighttime boat ride, spotting for Cayman.

 

He also showed us a walking tree. It moves a few inches during the day in order to find sunlight through the thick canopy overhead.

 

This tarantula was definitely moving.

Death Valley Night Sky

While camping at Eureka Dunes last week, I decided to get the camera out for some night sky images. Dune photos to follow soon. The bright star at the top of images 1 and 3 is Sirius.

The Remote and Remarkable Ibex Sand Dunes

These sand dunes in a remote part of Death Valley National Park are amazing. Very few people visit here so the dunes are pristine. One other couple showed up there when I did but we decided to go separate ways so we wouldn’t disturb each other’s photos.

White Pocket Is Simply Amazing. First Of 3 Posts.

I’ve been out there 4 or 5 times but the light approaching sunset was almost-perfect this time.  White Pocket is an area in Vermilion Cliffs National Monument in Northern Arizona. It’s a difficult drive on sandy roads to get there, but well worth the struggle.  One vehicle that only had 2-wheel drive got stuck in the sand and was only rescued when a Jeep Wrangler with a winch showed up and saved this couple a large towing bill.

Highway 24 is a fascinating stretch of remoteness and anomalies.  I’ve never been to Mars but images of its landscape are remindful of the sandstone quirks along Highway 24.

I will be conducting personal 1 on 1 photo workshops here in the Desert Southwest. I will bring you to those “hard to get to”places  that you may have seen in my photos at Dawn2Dawn Photography
