Hanksville, Utah is a small town in the middle of nowhere. Much of Southern Utah is like this and I hardly saw anyone out there except a few locals, but I found much to enjoy with the surreal landscapes.
Watch in HiDef at Full Screen. Music is Alone In Kyoto by French musical group, AIR.
I’ve probably driven near this spot 30 times over the last 15 years but didn’t know about this hidden gem. The road is a bit rough getting there but the drive is well worth it.
Watch at HiDef at Full Screen. Music is Vestiges by Martin Courtney.
An aerial video at the badlands of Factory Butte just east of Capitol Reef National Park. Watch in HiDef at Full Screen. Music is Parade by Rone.
About 1 % of the annual 4.5 million visitors to Zion National Park in Utah bother to venture up to the Kolob Terrace section of the park. Don’t tell anyone but it’s a pretty awesome and a unique part of Zion. The autumn colors are starting to pop in the upper elevations and I’ve seen, Elk, Red Fox, Bald Eagles and lots of Deer in the past. The very popular Subway hike is there too.
Enjoy this drive through Kolob and the music by Telepopmusik. Remember them?
About 15 miles outside of Zion NP is BLM land that attracts a much smaller number of visitors than the 5 million Zion gets a year. It’s used mostly by mountain bikers and primitive campers. It was about 100 degrees when I was out there last week to film and mountain bike and it was great to have the place to myself. There was NO ONE else out there!
How about a remote part of Utah near remote Capital Reef National Park. I ran into this place when I went to visit Bentonite Hills for a photo op. See Post.
The Mars Desert Research Station is a private research facility that efforts to assimilate existing on Mars and for space exploration in general. I did say hello to one scientist who was outside riding his bicycle. He wasn’t green or anything.

You can’t fly a drone on their property but you’re allowed to at the adjacent Bentonite Hills. See other post.

Didn’t see any Mars rover however.
It is a natural clay or ash that is produced from volcanoes. People have used it as a health aid for detoxification. When ingested, it helps to draw out the toxins that are present in your body. It aslo has many other benefits but definitely not FDA approved.
HOWEVER, I didn’t make a trip to a remote area of Utah for health benefits. From ground level you see layers of different colors present but it’s from above where you are amazed and flabbergasted. This is the reason why I bought a drone. The lines of color are formed when different minerals of different colors seep through the clay.
See companion video later today.

On some of these images, you’ll see me and my shadow. I look rather insignificant in this landscape.

Never heard of it? It is an area northeast of Las Vegas that President Obama set aside in 2016. Trump wants to shrink it. It comprises some 300,000 acres of pure and unadulterated desert landscape and is home to Desert Bighorn Sheep and Mountain Lions. I loved the remoteness. We camped about 20 miles from the nearest human. Little Finland is an area within the monument that showcases grotesque forms of weathered sandstone. I plan to return soon….
