Last Friday’s full moon captured near the Grand Canyon. A prescribed forest fire nearby added some smoke and cool color.

Detour to Alabama Hills in California’s Owens Valley
The normal road I take to Eureka Dunes at Death Valley National Park was washed out. So I had to go around and wouldn’t make it to the dunes that night. So I camped at Alabama Hills near Lone Pine California. It has great views and the camping is free! And the full moon was to rise that night.

It’s all about The Light as far as I am concerned. Flat light is ugly and bright light is straining to the eye. But filtered light or varying light produces dramatic images as seen recently at Zion National Park, Utah. Lightning Bolts and A Full Moon Rising
Within minutes, I was able to capture lightning bolts from an incredible storm passing through the Northern Arizona night and the full and very orange moon rising.

Monument Valley Like You’ve Never Seen?
I was at Monument Valley yesterday and was disappointed that the road through Monument Valley was closed due to snow and mud. But, a full moon was rising and the snow added an element that you don’t see here too much.
Lake Powell Moonrise
Lake Powell is on the border of Utah and Arizona. Formed by the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam, it has more shoreline than our Pacific Coastline. You might recognize in some of the photos, how the waterline has been dropping because of the drought in the area. I was there to capture the full moon rising.
