I had never been to the coast of Carolina but Cape Hatteras National Seashore is a thin strip of land, made up mostly of sand dunes, beaches and ocean waves. November seems like a good time to visit since there were few tourists and I had long stretches of beach to myself.

I made my annual trip to Eureka Dunes at Death Valley National Park and was still blown away despite the cold temperatures. Along with my friend Lian, her first visit, we climbed to the very top of the dunes, some 700 feet on the first day and explored the smaller dunes the next morning. These images are from Day One.
Not nearly as tall as Eureka Dunes, the Mesquite Dunes are more popular(Tour Buses pull into the parking lot) and thus has many footprints in the sand.
Additional images from Death Valley National Park’s Ibex Dunes. You’ll notice on some of these images that the lines in the sand are not holding. Your monitor and the fact that the internet can only handle 72 dpi images are the reasons some of the tight lines in the sand dunes appear fuzzy.
These sand dunes in a remote part of Death Valley National Park are amazing. Very few people visit here so the dunes are pristine. One other couple showed up there when I did but we decided to go separate ways so we wouldn’t disturb each other’s photos.
Me and my shadow. i think that’s my shadow.
Not sure what made these tracks in the sand. They kind of stop and start up again. A bird?
The lines and shapes of the sand dunes at Eureka Valley at Death Valley National Park make for some good abstract images. The contrast between shadows and highlights also accentuate the abstractness.
