If You Like Wildflowers, You’ll Like This Post

This is a long post showing about 50 photos I took this year in the upper elevations of the Western Slope of Colorado. The fun of this project was playing Inspector Clouseau.

Not sure of this one, any guesses? It may be a wildflower that hasn’t quite flowered yet.

The Summer Scene At Crested Butte, Colorado

Crested Butte is know for it’s spectacular winter ski scene but is quite popular in the summer for it’s flora, fauna and mountain biking. The surrounding Gunnison National Forest provides a spectacular landscape and numerous outdoor activities.

Colorado’s “Million Dollar Highway”

One of the most scenic highways in the United States, if not one of the most dangerous, the Million Dollar Highway is a must drive if you’re in Colorado. As part of US Route 550, the 25 miles from Ouray to Silverton represents the most scary and jaw dropping stretch. It was originally built in 1882 to serve the local mining industry. Sheer drop offs to my right caused me to slow down and find a safe spot for picture taking.

No guardrails here!

I’d hate to drive through here in winter.

Photo Of The Week- Colorado Autumn

Can you feel autumn coming? It’s my favorite season. The Colorado Rockies are a great place to experience fall colors and a little chill in the air. Aspen trees reach full color at different altitudes and latitudes.  This photo was shot on October 13th, 2012 near Telluride.  Peak colors are more likely  to happen in the last week of September and first week of October in Colorado but it varies. See chart at bottom.          Photo available as a print  or downloadable file at Dawn2dawn Photography
