Zion’s Many Many Pools Trail

Up on the Eastside of Zion National Park is an unmarked and unpublicized trail that offers a different look than the rest of the park. The Many Pools Trail is exactly what the name implies. A bunch of pools or potholes carved through erosion into the soft sandstone. The recent May rains have filled the pools and provided some great reflections. And in the spring you will find nature at work in the form of one little amphibian. The Canyon Tree Frog makes its home in these pools and I have photographed it and recorded its sounds that will be highlighted in my next post.  But for now, enjoy the landscape of their home.

    1. Thanks Katelon. To get to the trail, start in the main canyon at Zion and drive towards the East Entrance. After the second tunnel, park at the third pull out on the right and go across the street where the Many Pools Trail starts.

    1. Thanks Cornelia. I had to move around quite a bit to get the right angle but I had never seen these reflections in the years I was previously up there. I believe because of all the rain we have had, the water levels were high and produced better reflections

  11. I’m thinking that “Many Pools Trail” must be a translation of an original native (Hopi? Anasazi? Pueblo?) term. Do you know what it might be? Zion is quite high on my life wish list, and I hope that I can make it some day!
