The colors are disappearing fast at Zion National Park. Lack of rain here(rained once in last 2 months) has muted the colors.
At the Kaibab National Forest, adjacent to Grand Canyon National Park’s North Rim. At an elevation between eight to 9,000 feet, Autumn arrives early. The Aspens were just beginning to change colors and should be at full color around the first of October. But small pockets couldn’t wait.
I didn’t spend too much time this autumn capturing the fall colors at Zion Canyon so I kind of caught the tail end of it.
Cedar Canyon is between Cedar City and Cedar Breaks National Monument in Southern Utah. It is marked by Ponderosa Pines, Aspens and sandstone cliffs. Autumn is a special time to visit at or past peak color.
Aspen trees are starting to turn colors at Kaibab National Forest, Arizona.
Like an army of ants, autumn colors made its journey through Zion Canyon the past few weeks. Cottonwoods, maples and scrub oaks are the trees that provide the display. Its just too bad that the colors don’t stay longer.
Today is the first day of autumn, a great time for photography, especially here in Southern Utah and Northern Arizona. I conduct personal one-on-one instruction and will get you to those spots to capture images such as below. Colors peak towards the end of October and into the first few weeks of November. The other day I was in Zion National Park, scouting out locations where the fall colors may be beginning. There were hints that fall foliage was about to burst but not this day. Echo Canyon is a steep climb about 1,500 feet above the Zion Canyon floor and it was possible fall colors would appear there. I made the trek and was I thrilled that I did. Echo Canyon was aflame in color! There was still some green so the peak may not be for another week but Echo Canyon is spectacular in any season and the brilliant hues and pastels made it extraordinary. I’m headed over to Moab, Utah this week and the incredible Arches and Canyonlands National Parks.
