If you can’t score a permit for “The Wave” at North Coyote Buttes, get a permit for the remarkable and sublime South Coyote Buttes on the Arizona/Utah border, 30 miles west of Page ,Arizona. You’ll need a 4 wheel drive vehicle with high clearance, a good map and a sense of adventure. Bring along a shovel, an air compressor, a sleeping bag and a few days supply of food and water just in case you break down. It really helps your photos if there are some menacing clouds in the area. These were shot exactly one week ago.

Outstanding pictures! I love the colors, the depth, and the scope of them. Your adventure across the desert was certainly worth it to those of us who get to see your pictures 8^). Also, thanks for liking my “songs of samizdat” post. I appreciate it.

We just scored a permit for the South Buttes. Given that I don’t have a LOT of faith in a rental 4×4, we’ll likely go with a guide. Looking forward to this part of our adventure, and your pics make it more enticing!!!

I miss that region of desert. When I lived in Colorado I spent large amounts of time in southern Utah and sometimes northern Arizona. Thanks for the nostalgia.
