Lee’s Ferry/Vermilion Cliffs

Lee’s Ferry in Northern Arizona, is known as a launching point for Colorado River rafters and other interesting rock formations. Vermilion Cliffs National Monument and the California Condor are nearby. Lee’s Ferry is the only place to access the Colorado River by vehicle for hundreds of miles. It’s named after John Doyle Lee, a Mormon Pioneer, who was later convicted and executed for his part in the infamous Mountain Meadows Massacre in Utah in 1877.

This is a stunningly beautiful place. In November we drove through en route from the GC North Rim to Chaco Canyon, however it was near dusk and we weren’t able to get good photographs. After having made the drive, Vermillion Cliffs made it to the top of my list for the next Southwest trip (whenever that may be). Thanks for sharing this series. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your beautiful photography!
