Gnarley, Rad, Sick and Massive

The Red Bull Rampage is an annual mountain biking competition here in Virgin, Utah. This was the 12th edition and is fast becoming a very popular event worldwide.  These extreme riders defy the laws of gravity and common sense physics.  Einstein would have trouble figuring out how these mountain bikers do what they do. As some nearby dudes said, it was gnarley, rad, sick and massive. The photos pretty much give you a good idea of the competition and scene. SPOILER ALERT- Kurt Sorge won the event for an unprecedented third time.    This competition was filmed and will be shown on NBC on December 24th.

Tickets sold out online in 5 minutes.

How do they not kill themselves or end up seriously injured?

No one got hurt this year Katelon but it happens. I just posted another video to this post which is a POV of one rider’s trip and truly shows the dangers.

They are braver than I would be. But what amazing surroundings to ride in.

I ride my mountain bike in this area and have great views but the biggest jump I do is about a foot and a half.

        Even that is impressive. 🙂

Makes me cringe just looking at the photographs. I am attempting more and more off road biking in the sand and I fall over:)

I mountain bike too but I’m not insane like these guys. The last video really shows how crazy they are

It wasn’t easy trying to focus on these riders moving so fast and with other people around. I took 599 photos in 5 hours.

Great images Michael. I’m just wondering what kind of effect this sport has on the nature.

Thanks Cornelia. This event is only for one week. It’s on private property and is mostly desert which bounces back pretty quickly. It was really dusty because we have had rain only once in the last 6 weeks. Wind and rain will bring it back to original shape.
