Glen Canyon Moonrise/Sunset

Glen Canyon is that canyon that pretty much disappeared once construction started on the Glen Canyon Dam in 1956. It was finished in 1966. But the Colorado River was backed up into the canyon which later formed Lake Powell and the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. There still is a canyon but not nearly as deep as it was.  The two images here were shot within 5 minutes of each other. More images from the area to follow.

Thanks Eliza. That’s what caught my eye, those horizontal layers

Great shots! I remember going on a tour of that damn during construction. There was such a controversy at that time about what was going to be flooded.
My wife and I went on a day long boat excursion. what a wonderful place.

Thanks Enman. The area is very fascinating. A good book of the area well before it was dammed is Wallace Stegner’s “The 100th Meridian” which details John Wesley Powell’s journey’s down the Colorado River around 1860

thanks Michael. My father once joined a group that traced Powell’s course down the Colorado. However, that book would be fun to read. Thanks.
