Fall Colors Invade Zion Canyon- Part 1

Like an army of ants, autumn colors made its journey through Zion Canyon the past few weeks.  Cottonwoods, maples and scrub oaks are the trees that provide the display.  Its just too bad that the colors don’t stay longer.

It looks like we were up at Zion the same time you were. I’ve got the same photos in my archives that I haven’t posted yet. We traveled up there 4 weekends in a row from Las Vegas and, while we did see some beautiful scenery each weekend, we never did capture any red leaves, which I was searching for. Your photos are beautiful and I should probably post a few of my own during the following week.

The colors were very patchy. I had to go off the beaten path to find them. I had to bushwhack my way to get to some good spots. I’d see the one cottonwood tree full of color standing next to one that was still green. There still is some color left but it is unusual to have color this close to Thanksgiving

Good to here you were bushwhacking! We did have fun, though! And will be going back to Bryce later this year or early next. Take care!

Your photos are wonderful and, like Emilio, I noticed the absence of red leaves. They’re fairly common in Australia’s autumn colour scheme. Whenever I’m lucky enough to tour some of America’s national parks, I hope you can be commissioned as a guide. 🙂

Thanks Peggy. Most of the red leaves would come from the maples and don’t last long. I do photography workshops and am a seasonal park ranger at Zion.

So that’s how you happen to be out there so often. Lucky you.
