The Wave Part 4- The Light Was Just Right

As I trekked out to The Wave last Monday, my plan was to end up at the main attraction late in the day when the light was just right and there were no others there. I had the place to myself! The other 19 permit holders were long gone. No one to get in the way or for me to get in someone else’s shot. The Wave is a small area.  The light however was pretty flat.  A cloud cover draped Coyote Buttes.  Looking up at the sky to the west I noticed there might be an opening for some light to get through but I’d have to be patient. I also didn’t want to be out there too late and hike the 2 1/2 miles in sand and slickrock in darkness.  So I ate a granola bar and waited for about 45 minutes until I notice a glimmer coming down from the heavens. Some light did appear through the clouds and that’s all I needed.

The sense of movement in this place is overwhelming. Is it hard to hike through? I think I might be completely discombobulated by constant converging and diverging lines. Anyway, as always, magnificent photography.

Thanks again Susanne. It’s not too hard of a hike. You don’t mind it so much when the scenery is spectacular and you were lucky enough to get a permt

Gorgeous, as usual! I definitely need to get out there…

You know, I’m sick and tired of all these beautiful shots being posted on your blog. I think it might be best to mix it up a bit. Show us some of your not-so-perfect images. If you want, I can let you borrow some of mine.

Absolutely spectacular images! (Tried to obtain a permit this spring but did not win the lottery.)

Thanks Scott. The best time to get a permit is during the winter months and in person at the BLM office in Kanab, Utah
